ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I paint primarily from my past memories I have of New England where I was reared and from the impressions of California where I have lived for the last 45 years.
My focus is on INTERIOR OF ROOMS, my SUBJECT MATTER, an environment I find comforting as well as stimulating. My training in design has influenced my style. I am concerned with the relationships of shape to surface to color and the feeling this balance invokes. My acrylic paintings are done in bold, rich colors. Flat simple shapes such as squares, dots, stripes and flowers create a patterned effect. The lines are free and flowing. The total result is a quaintness and warmth, yet with a fresh modern feeling. I attended Green Mt. College in Vermont. I attended Parsons School of Design in NYC and graduated with my BFA from San Jose State University. I have exhibited extensively in the Bay Area and in New England. From 1984 until 2009 I gave up painting canvas to painting on walls, ceilings and floors. My mural business, PAINTED ILLUSIONS, took me to many peninsula homes and businesses. I have returned to the canvas once again. I just rejoined GALLERY 9 after 20 years painting murals.
