ARTIST'S STATEMENT
I think of my landscapes as portraits. The earth shows its personality in its colors, shapes, shadows and expressions. I use watercolor as my medium, so I am able to catch these changing facets in a shorter amount of time than with other media. I like the contrast of transparency and opacity that the medium of watercolor allows to happen.
Much of my recent work has been done from trips to Europe and New Mexico. Recently, I have also become intrigued with still lifes integrated with landscapes. All of this work has been done in the studio from memories, photos and sketches.
I was trained at Mills College and the College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA. I have been teaching for 30 years, but since my retirement, I have devoted most of my time to traveling and painting. In recent years I have had a one person show at the Palo Alto Medical Clinic in Palo Alto and Gallery 9 in Los Altos. I am currently represented at Gallery 9 in Los Altos and have had many one person exhibits there. I have also been represented by two other galleries in California and Colorado.
